Born and raised in rural Iowa, Mike Tamerius had his first taste of the optical industry as a teenager, cleaning the offices of Creston Vision Clinic. After high school, Mike cut his teeth in the industry as an optician while attending Grinnell College, so it only seemed natural to pursue a career in the field after graduation. In a leap of faith, Mike and high school friend, Matt Somers, founded Precision Optical in 1992 on what has since been referred to as just a “hunch and a handshake.”
With no formal business training or financial backing, Precision Optical was started with the resources available: determination and lots of elbow grease. Mike was raised in a culture of dedication to family, hard work and midwestern values. 28 years later, he tends to choose his team based on the same criteria.
